Last Friday night, I Ate My Way Through won in the food category of Pedestrian’s 2013 Blogster Awards! I was already extremely honoured to have been a finalist among great company, so with no expectations to win, I went along to the awards party as a celebration of sorts.

Winners in the categories of Instagram, fashion, food, music, photography, lifestyle, vblog, Twitter and tech, media, design, were judged on the following criteria by Pedestrian.TV, Intel and a panel of Media Partners:

  • 25% Creativity and originality of content
  • 25% Technology and innovation
  • 25% Overall design and presentation
  • 25% Audience engagement (This is where your vote counted – thank you so much to those who took the time to vote! xx)

I was speechless when I Ate My Way Through was called out as the Food Blog Of The Year winner. I let out a squeal of joy before making my way up onto the stage to collect the trophy and prizes (a brand new Toshiba KIRA Ultrabook laptop and a mentorship with the category media partner, who in my case, is Time Out). It was a blur after that. Our social media accounts have been overwhelmed with so many congratulatory messages, I haven’t had a chance to respond to each and every one of you individually, but know that I have read them all and am most thankful. I’ve taken this week to recollect my thoughts so here’s my little thank you speech.

Jennifer Lam, founding blogger of I Ate My Way Through at Pedestrian 2013 Blogster Awards

Despite not expecting to take out the award for the best in the food category, I am so stoked I Ate My Way Through has won. It’s been a long time coming as this blog has been my longest and largest passion project to date. We recently celebrated our 7th birthday with a complete design and business overhaul and there isn’t anything I’m more proud of. This award validates all the late nights and lost weekends I’ve spent on building this blog. It’s a reconfirmation that I’m on the right track.

However, all of that means nothing without you – it really makes my day every time one of you emails or leaves a comment about how you’ve dined somewhere because of one of our recommendations, or how you’ve tried a new cuisine or ordered a dish you normally wouldn’t have. Thank you to everyone who has followed my journey since the Jenius.com.au days, thank you for every comment, ‘like’ or ‘share’ you’ve ever sent our way; if you’ve dined with me, thank you for being patient with my ‘photos before eating’ thing, and an especially big thank you to those that keep spreading the word about I Ate My Way Through. You guys all fuel this dream that I’m living and I’m so excited about the recognition and opportunities that being a Pedestrian Blogster Award winner will bring.

Thank you and good night 🙂

Jennifer is the founding blogger of I Ate My Way Through (originally, Jenius.com.au). Growing up in the multicultural melting pot of Sydney’s Inner West as a second generation Australian (of Vietnamese refugee parents of Teochew Chinese ancestry), Jen has always had a deep curiosity about global cuisines, culinary heritage and the cultural assimilation of immigrants. For Jen and her family, food is always at the centre of all celebrations, life events and milestones. A lover of the finer things in life, as well as cheap eats, her blogging ethos is all about empowering and inspiring people to expand their culinary repertoire. When not running her two companies (she is also the Managing Director of The Bamboo Garden online marketing agency), Jen can be found exploring old-world charms at vintage markets and delving into local eats around the world. She has a weakness for fried chicken.
