When P&O Cruises President Sture Myrmell met a friend for drinks outside business hours at the industrial-chic bar Archie Rose, probably the last thing on his mind was a business proposal. The martini-loving executive was so taken back by the quality of spirits produced by Archie Rose Distilling Co, he decided he wanted them on his cruise ships.
A partnership was thereafter born between two brand names both inspired to provide the highest standard of product and service. “As Australia’s only home-grown cruise line, we’re very proud to be stocking another premium Australian product on our ships.” Mr Myrmell said.
The new cocktail bar, suitably named “The Bonded Store”, will be available on P&O’s latest ship Pacific Explorer which launches in June. Guests on the 77,000-tonne superliner will be able to enjoy a tantalising list of cocktails with every drink featuring Archie Rose’s handcrafted spirits.
In a first for an Australian-based ship, the popular craft distiller will also host special gin and whisky making masterclasses on board Pacific Explorer cruises. I Ate My Way Though had a sneak peek of the masterclass and got our hands full adding classic botanicals to customise our gin. There is no right or wrong answer but a matter of personal taste. Most importantly, it was a lot of fun.
In Australia, an increasing number of people choose a cruise that combines their enthusiasm for cooking inspired by popular TV shows with a relaxing holiday. On board P&O Food and Wine cruises, guests can learn from expert culinary talents such as top Australian chef Luke Mangan, Will and Steve from My Kitchen Rules and Masterchef 2016 winner Elena Duggan. For those who prefer to leave the cooking to the professionals, they have the multiple inclusive dining options available on each ship or dine at a celebrity chef restaurant for a fraction of the price it costs on land.
And when passengers have satisfied their taste buds, they can relax in the classy design of the The Bonded Store and enjoy a craft spirits experience by Archie & Rose that showcases the innovation and quality of local Australian spirits.
Fares on Pacific Explorer start from $399* per person quad share for a three night SeaBreak cruise departing Sydney on August 4, 2017. For more information visit pocruises.com.au, call 13 24 94 or see a licensed travel agent.
